The Finnish Magic Circle awarded Henri Kemppainen with the Magician of the Year title in their annual meeting on February 27th.

The association states that the award is based on the international attention received by the Magic in Lapland tv series, starring Kemppainen, and on the Taikarumpu magic and illusion show performed at the Tampere Hall in 2021.

Magic in Lapland, which showcases Finnish nature together with Kemppainen’s magic, was released to an audience of millions on the US-based ROKU platform in January 2022. In addition, DIRECTV bought distribution rights to the series for both North and South America.

The Taikarumpu show was presented on three nights at the Tampere Hall in the fall of 2021. The show was a clever combination of magic, illusions and cinematic music with mystical rhythms. Kemppainen was joined on stage by Jussi 69 from the band The 69 Eyes.

– A big thanks to the Finnish Magic Circle for recognising my work. These two productions have been very dear to me. They have taken me towards what I want to give my audience with my magic, and where I want to continue to challenge myself, says Kemppainen.

The Finnish Magic Circle is a magician’s association founded in 1945, whose honorary presidents include the legendary Solmu Mäkelä. The association annually presents the Magician of the Year title together with a bronze Solmu Mäkelä medal designed by professor Kimmo Pyykkö. The award is presented for outstanding accomplishments in magic.
